It doesn’t come packed with all of the Android-goodness but it still lets you try out the OS for a decent price. Starting at 100 EUR (actually 94 EUR with regard to the currency rate) or about $ 150,-. (950 RMB)

Too many missing parts

As I pointed out on this website, Sciphone is in a critical not-so-effective decision making process right now. Today, I found that the N12 contains no traces of Android anymore. Sciphone does plan to bring out some Android phones but alas, they are all missing parts.

Caribisch meer in Nederland?

Onlangs vond ik een berichtje (uit de VS) van iemand die dacht een ontdekking te hebben gedaan in ons kikkerlandje.

Ik ben al even niet meer in Nederland geweest, maar ik ken dit plekje absoluut niet. Iemand een idee wat er schuilt in de driehoek tussen Duizel, Knegsel en Steensel?

Even offtopic, of toch niet?

Je leest dagelijks nieuwsberichten waarbij je denkt: wat? Besteedt een overheid hier geld aan? “Luie mannen minder in trek bij hardwerkende vrouwen”, “kans op hersenletsel groter bij alcoholisten”, enfin…de ‘onderzoekjes’ die universiteiten uitvoeren in droge tijden. Topper van vorige week:

“Kraaien begrijpen zwaartekracht”.

Ga ik mee in deze trend? Ja! Gisteravond kreeg ik tijdens een Hollands avondje in Barcelona het gevoel deze ervaring te delen met het volk.

Since PMP-today linked to my post (and apparently Engadget to theirs) I’ll clarify the Sciphone-situation:

Seems like Sciphone decided to ditch some of the N-models, or at least switch the OS on some phones. I did tip them about not being able to run Android (to full extent) on devices without a digital compass, motion-sensor and/or other hardware…

Let’s say they already produced a couple of devices, about 25,000, what can you do?  Solution: keep Android on the ’smartest’ phones and throw some Java-based thingy on the lousy models.

One of the guys at Androidworld.nl has done nothing to upset his G1, yet it decided to play an ol’ iPhone trick on him. Coincidence, or Android’s first intelligent step towards a merge (or shall we say assimilation) with its human companion? Mmm…

See what they’ll throw in for you

Yesterday, I used the photo-viewing function on my Chinese phone for the first time. I was impressed, because the scrolling and zooming was similar to stuff I’ve seen on my iPhone.

I own some ‘western’ phones and some Chinese phones, because I travel a lot and therefore use Dual-Sim functionality. The ‘big brands’ are just not into that, so I’m turning to China for some extra functions.

I wrote about Sciphone’s entry in Android-based devices last week, now it’s time to see what Chinavasion has in store for us.
